Carl Mancivalano moved from Saint Thomas, VI to Vermont in 1991, when he met 9th generation Vermonter Jill Adams. Carl not only fell in love with the farmer,s daughter, but also the land, the history, and the lifestyle. Carl and Jill together have created "the ultimate agricultural experience" for their visitors, says the Boston Sunday Globe. They have won many awards for their unique and clever tours. The Adams Farm has been featured on ABC,s Good Morning America, CBS,s Early Morning Show with Bryant Gumble, ESPN, National Public Television, Boston Chronicle, and Vermont Public Television,s "Across the Fence." Carl and Jill, along with their young daughters Olivia and Charlotte, manage and operate the 220- acre diversified farm enterprise purchased by Jill,s family in 1865. The Adams Farm produces a variety of agricultural products including: maple syrup, hand-spun woolens, garden products and quality family activities.

Elm Lea Farm, managed by Peter Stickney, serves as
an educational tool for the Putney School and provides many food
products for the school's kitchen. It has been in operation by the
school since 1934. The farm raises cows, sheep, chickens, turkeys,
and pigs. It also includes extensive vegetable gardens, two greenhouses,
and a sugaring operation. The 30 cow herd is a mixture of registered
Holsteins owned by Peter and school-owned Holsteins, Brown Swiss,
and Jerseys.
With a boarding population of approximately. 170 students
and a day student population of 40, students staff a large portion
of the school's general work crews. Barn crews, headed by student
leaders, do both morning and afternoon chores at the barn. In addition,
students do a variety of jobs on the farm in the afternoons after
classes including building projects, collecting sap in season, gardening,
fencing, and splitting firewood.

Dright Miller, Jr. is a seventh generation Vermonter who owns one of the most diversified farms in Vermont. Known as an orchardist and as the "Peach King" of Vermont, Dwight raises apples peaches, pears, strawberries, blueberries
and other smal fruits. Some of the first Holsteins registered at The Holstein Association in Brattleboro were bred on this Dummerston farm in the 1800s. Dwight,s father sold his dairy cattle in the 1920s to put more land into
orchards, with the first peaches being planted in 1895, the first apples in 1871. The land has been kept open, pasturing Southdown and other breeds of sheep. The Millers also produce maple syrup. The farm is the largest organic fruit farms in the Eastern U.S., marketing their products as "Vermont Farm Organic." Thousands of gallons of apple cider are pressed annually, as well as rhubarb, peach and pear juice for wine. Many vegetables are also organically grown. Dwight Miller, Jr. is involved in many local and national agricultural organizations.

Fair Winds Farm is a 40 acre diversified, horse powered, family operated farm in Brattleboro, that has been farmed by the Baileys’ for 26 years. They produce eggs, vegetables, perennial flowers, piglets and registered Suffolk Punch foals. They give hay and sleigh rides, train draft horses and teach draft horse workshops. They host numerous school groups each year, giving children a chance to take a hay ride, feed the pigs, put their hands in the soil or jump in the hay.
They strive to work a farm that is environmentally, economically and personally sustainable. Different aspects of the farm work together to support, nourish and energize each other. Draft horses are an appropriate technology for our farm. They promote soil health, provide ample and flexible amounts of power, not to mention that they are wonderful teachers!

The 600 acre farm has been in the Thurber family since 1937. It is now operated as a partnership, milking 60 head of Holstein and Brown Swiss cows. The Thurbers also harvest timber from their wood lot for firewood, saw logs, and farm building materials. They also produce maple syrup and grow organic vegetables and cut flowers, sold at the Brattleboro Farmers' Market, the Brattleboro Food Coop, and local restaurants. In 1999 conservation easements were placed on the land for protection from development.

The Millers and Franklins have been partners at the Miller Farm for thirteen years. The farm, previously owned by Paul and Mary Miller, milks 180 head of registered Holsteins and raises all of its own heifers for replacement stock plus a few to sell. They grow all their own hay, hay silage, an corn on 200 acres of land.

Hermon Robb moved the family farm to its present site with his parents and grandparents in 1907. Now in its sixth generation at this site, the farm milks 55 head of Holsteins and raises its own replacement heifers. A "flat barn" milking parlor and free stall barn were recently added to increase cow comfort and ease of operation.
The Robbs also produce maple syrup, some of which is processed into maple drizzle, maple candy, and maple cream and sold through The Country Shop on the farm. The farm hosts a number of events such as the Valentine Sweetheart Hayride, Ice Cream Sundae Sunday, and the Apple Fritter Fest. In all of these events, dairy farm education is highlighted. The farm also offers draft horse hayrides and sleigh rides by reservation.

Sunrise Farm raises dairy replacement heifers on a 200 acre farm utilizing rotational grazing techniques. The farm iteself has been in continuous operation since 1792 and has been owned by Mr. Smith since 1991. The farm also grows and harvests timber on this and several other parcels of forestland in Guilford and in Western Massachusetts, as well as on land owned by other cooperating forestland owners. The main products of the forestry operation are wide pine flooring and hardwood flooring. The large free span barn at the farm is occasionally used for a variety of community-oriented musical and other artistic performances.
